Kristen + Eric | Skyline Romance at Dayblock Event Center - Minneapolis, MN Wedding Photographer

My absolute favorite wedding days are spent with couples like Kristen and Eric. Head over heels in love since they met at Welcome Week at the U of M 10 years ago (almost to the day!)…. insanely fun to be around, and wildly excited to CELEBRATE and party the night away! Even better is when a couple decides to make their wedding day their OWN, adding little touches of personality along the way.

Their perfect day took place at the beautiful Dayblock Event Center in downtown Minneapolis and had the most amazing details — from the insanely delicious food truck catering by Gastrotruck, to the surprise ice cream cake and ice cream bar from Izzy’s Ice Cream… not to mention the EPIC surprise first dance choreographed to a Backstreet Boys song. Top that off with stunning florals, mismatched bridesmaids gowns, and the most AMAAAAAZING rooftop views of the Minneapolis skyline at sunset, and you have a recipe for a modern fairytale romance, set in the big city.

The girls started the day in hair and makeup at Kristen and Eric’s apartment in downtown, then headed over to the Depot Hotel (a whole 2 blocks away) to formally begin the festivities! The excited, nervous tears began when Kristen got into her gown, nerves were calmed as the bride and friends broke out in their favorite ballad — Celine Dion’s “All Coming Back to Me Now”. After a special reveal with her dad, Kristen made her way over to Eric for their emotional first look moment (Eric’e favorite part of the day!). We hit up the party bus for some additional photos and found our way over to the Stone Arch Bridge… only to find out that there was a race taking place (and of course, Eric and Kristen had a THE best finish time of the race!).

Their ceremony was very special (Kristen’s favorite part of the day!) and was officiated by Kristen’s uncle (and her father’s twin brother!!). Anytime that you have 5 flower girls and an adorable ring bearer coming down the aisle, it is guaranteed to be an amazing moment! After they sealed the deal with a kiss, Kristen and Eric made their way up the aisle through a shower of rose petals and then headed to their cocktail hour, featuring the most photographic signature drink ever (Aperol Spritz with a cute garnish).

They kicked off the reception with their epic first dance and then indulged in the most amazing wedding food ever (because mac n cheese made in front of you AND topped with potato chips needs to be an every day thing….). They cut their cake and guests indulged in a tasty ice cream bar from their favorite place — Izzy’s! The dance floor was crazy all night and we ended our coverage with an encore performance of “All Coming Back to Me Now”, complete with a handsome groom stealing his favorite girl away from the crowd for a quite night portrait in the street. Best party ever!!!

Kristen and Eric, it was an honor and a privilege to be a part of your special day. Congratulations, lovebirds!

Amanda + Justin | Enchanted Garden Wedding at the Historic John P Furber Farm - Cottage Grove, MN Wedding Photographer

Amanda + Justin were married in a stunning enchanted garden-inspired destination wedding celebration filled with love, vibrant jewel tones and thousands upon thousands of beautiful blooms.  They chose the exquisite Historic John P Furber Farm in Cottage Grove, MN for their wedding day.

(You might remember Amanda + Justin from their emotional surprise proposal that took place in their brand new home, that was also featured on How He Asked!)

It all started with a vision:  the bride wanted to take their modern barn venue and transform it with flowers, inspired by her mother's love of flowers and gardening: "Flowers everywhere!".   Both from the south, these two lovebirds invited their family and friends to come to their new home state of Minnesota to celebrate their wedding and showcase the beauty that Minnesota has to offer.  They planned their event around Memorial Day weekend and kicked off the weekend with a lakeside fete at 6Smith on the shores of the famed Lake Minnetonka.  Their invitation suite even showcased a watercolor map of the Twin Cities and the various wedding weekend sites of interest.

On the wedding day, the bride wore an exquisite Tulle New York raw satin gown that fit like a glove and was an unexpectedly perfect choice for their modern, elegant affair that just so happened to take place at a beautiful barn venue.  The groom opted for a black tie tux look and the couple waited until the ceremony to see one another.  The bride and her father shared an emotional moment together before the ceremony, where she gave him an embroidered handkerchief and he showed off the vintage watch that the bride's mother had given him the day the bride was born -- and he had saved it all of these years, to wear on this day for the very first time.

With an elaborate aisle of ombre pink rose petals and a string quartet playing the Bridal March, it was the perfect modern twist on a traditional ceremony.  The bride entered the outdoor ceremony site through a set of freestanding doors and walked to her groom.  After an emotional ceremony, the couple joyously recessed through a shower of rose petals tossed by the guests and then celebrated with a champagne toast with their wedding party under the trees as their guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the front lawn.  The barn itself was transformed into an enchanted garden, with thousands and thousands of lush flowers adorning the cross-beams of the venue, the head table, and all of the guest tables.

They chose a sleek white-on-white color scheme for their linens and chiavari chairs, with clear beaded chargers and an unexpected menu card displayed underneath with gold flatware and accents.  Guests were greeted with an over-sized etched acrylic escort seating display, surrounded by more flowers as they made their way into the barn ballroom.  In addition to a traditional wedding cake, they chose a massive, tiered ombre cake pop "cake" was a tasty centerpiece and their signature drink paid homage to their alma mater, Kansas University.  They finished the night with the bride surprising her groom with a vintage Rolls Royce, sparklers, and a fountain fireworks exit!

What an honor to be a part of this spectacular wedding day, celebrating a couple we love and have been with since she said YES!

Congratulations, lovebirds!
