Lauren and Karl’s classic Minneapolis wedding was a late autumn celebration of love. Lauren grew up in Plymouth, Karl in Orono, and they both graduated high school in the same year. They both went through the same church confirmation program, had tons of mutual friends through church, soccer, etc. There were so many coincidental stories where they probably crossed paths but it wasn't until their dear friend insisted that they should meet, did they actually get together!
Karl’s proposal to Lauren wasn’t just any proposal — it was a well-planned, weekend-long celebration! Minneapolis is such an important part of their love story, and Karl incorporated it into his proposal. Karl planned a 'date day' for that started with lunch and mini golf over in St. Paul. They made their way back to Minneapolis, had a drink on the river, and then he insisted on going up to the top of the Foshay Tower observation deck where he proposed! Karl then surprised Lauren with dinner at the Bachelor Farmer (where their first date was), then met their parents for celebratory cocktails, a surprise night at the chic Hewing Hotel, and to top it all off, a surprise brunch with all of their closest friends the next morning.
When they began to plan their wedding day, they knew that they really just wanted a classic, romantic wedding that was a true celebration of their love and all of the amazing people in their lives that would carry through to their marriage. They chose the Van Dusen Mansion, a historical, architectural gem of a venue that includes a beautiful historic mansion, a modern ballroom and a two-level carriage house for epic hours of dancing! It was the perfect place to kick off their marriage.
They began their wedding day with a beautiful Catholic mass at St. Olaf Catholic Church in downtown Minneapolis. They had opted to save their first look for when Lauren came down the aisle and it was full of emotional moments. After some portraits along the Mississippi riverfront, we made our way back to the elegant Van Dusen Mansion for an evening of laughter, dinner and dancing and finished our evening together with some stunning portraits… even though it began to rain! What a perfect day for a couple that was always meant to be together.
