Anya + Marvin | Intimate Night Elopement at Como Conservatory - St. Paul, MN Wedding Photographer

Secret elopements are my favorite!! Marvin and Anya chose the Como Conservatory in St. Paul for their intimate, secret wedding. There is something magical about the Sunken Gardens, and at night, it glows warmly, lit by the beautiful starburst chandeliers. Its beauty is exquisite (and BONUS: It’s also climate-controlled year-round!).

I never got to meet Anya + Marvin until their wedding day, but after our phone calls and emails, I felt like I’d known them forever. They began the day getting ready at the W Hotel - Foshay in downtown Minneapolis. They were both in the beautiful suite as they prepared for the ceremony, but they stayed hidden in separate rooms as they got dressed! We ventured over near the Guthrie Theater for an emotional First Look under the city lights near the river. I’ll never forget Anya’s excitement — so giddy, she literally squealed and started jumping up and down! These two were SO ready to be married!

When we arrived at the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory at the Como Zoo, the conservatory was glowing in golden light and the smell of the tropics greeted us. Beautiful red and yellow tulips were the highlight of the spring flower installation in the Sunken Gardens. As the ceremony began, Anya was escorted down the aisle by her mother, Bridget. The two women were beaming as they made their way up to Marvin, who was waiting with open arms to greet his bride. As some beautiful words were shared over their marriage, they placed a bottle of rum and love letters inside a unity box. They sealed the deal with a kiss and finally were MARRIED!

We met up at my studio for some fun portraits and shared lots of laughs as we played their favorite music and they swayed, twirled, kissed and laughed some more.

Congratulations, lovebirds!

Tristyn + Craig | Minneapolis Golf Club Wedding - Minneapolis, MN Wedding Photographer

Tristyn + Craig’s beautiful spring wedding day had a touch of winter with a fresh coat of snow (thanks to a Minnesota blizzard in April!) — but that didn’t stop us from celebrating these two lovebirds and the start of their marriage.

They met at church camp in high school and became quick friends. Tristyn had a crush on Craig, but….Craig was oblivious to it. They lost touch for a while but reconnected after a few years and decided to date long distance. After many years and thousands of miles of long-distance and FaceTime dates, flights back and forth from Minnesota to the East Coast, and kisses goodbye… these two are so excited to (finally!) be married — and be in the same place forever.

Their wedding day was filled with both joy and tears. The bride’s grandfather passed away the week before the wedding, and he was deeply missed at the celebration. Tristyn and her father shared an emotional reveal at the church before they headed off to meet Craig, who was waiting nearby at Centennial Lakes Park. As the sun peeked in and out from behind the clouds, happy tears and smiles were plentiful as the lovebirds finally saw each other.

Their ceremony was personal, intimate and spiritual. The groom’s brother is a pastor at the church and performed the most beautiful ceremony. A little Bambi film reference (Twitterpated!) was played about love - love me some Disney! Their families gathered round them in prayer before the newlyweds shared a kiss. They were greeted with a fun bubble exit and they departed in the groom’s pickup truck.

When they arrived to the Minneapolis Golf Club, the sun had come out to stay and we enjoyed the most beautiful golden light for their portraits. Their menu was entirely gluten-free/dairy-free, which was a treat - even the cake and cookies! Another of the groom’s talented brothers played an acoustic version of Ruelle’s “I Get to Love You” for their first dance to open up the reception. After emotional toasts and sweet dances with their parents, they opened up THE most epic dance party I’ve ever seen (complete with dress-shirt limbo, glow stick glasses, and beach balls!). We topped off the night with an amazing sparkler send-off and these two lovebirds headed to Hawaii for their honeymoon!

Congratulations, lovebirds!

Kyla + Ryan | Clyde Iron Works Winter Wedding - Duluth, MN Wedding Photographer

Click Play for Slideshow

Kyla and Ryan’s destination winter wedding in Duluth was picture-perfect and full of the romantic, cozy love that they wished for their day — minus the snow! Kyla, a former Princess Kay of the Milky Way and Minnesota State FFA officer, now a recent graduate in Agricultural Communications from SDSU, and Ryan, a recent Air Force Academy graduate entering pilot training, beat the odds after all these years and finally became husband and wife!

Their Duluth wedding day at Clyde Iron Works was a whopping 45 degrees and there was barely any snow left in sight (amazing since the snowfall began back in October in Minnesota).

Their love story began all the way back in the 6th grade. However, as middle school relationships go, that didn’t exactly last for the long run back then. But they stayed best of friends all through high school and beyond and did everything together. Little did Kyla know that Ryan believed she was far more than a friend, but he had left for basic training in the Air Force. After a return trip to MN for Christmas break, and a subsequent goodbye once more… Kyla knew, beyond a doubt, that she loved him wholeheartedly and couldn’t believe he was in front of her eyes all this time. She wrote him a letter professing her love and the rest, as they say, is history! Through years of long-distance dating and “airport kisses” goodbye, these two lovebirds were finally ready to profess their love in front of family and friends and the Lord to finally become one.

The day began with sunny skies and an incredible almost-summer-like forecast (the antithesis of what Duluth in the winter is known for!). After an emotional first look at Clyde Iron Works, we departed for the stunning Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior, WI. Father Andrew offered a beautiful marriage lesson and even involved the young ring bearers in the blessing of the rings (with subsequent fist bumps!). Guests were offered a humorous chance for “15 seconds to take as many photos as you want!” at the end of the mass and Kyla and Ryan sealed their love with a kiss!

Lake Superior, notorious for ice stacking on the shoreline in winter, was almost completely thawed and we had a chance to grab some stunning sunset photos along the North Shore coast. A detour to a Duluth beach for more photos ended in some gorgeous cotton-candy skies and still no coats! We did get caught by the Lift Bridge though… during the long delay for a ship to pass through, we jumped off the shuttle and ran to the Canal, just in time to grab some epic shots with the Federal Rhine Bridgetown ship (the last “saltie” of 2018 to depart from Duluth!). Check out the video and you can even see my flash going off. Our Canal stop was completely unplanned and totally awesome!!

We joined up with guests at Clyde Iron Works and the couple greeted guests and enjoyed a fabulous cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and a special Christmas “cookie table”, a Pittsburgh-area tradition from Ryan’s side of the family. The dance floor opened up and Kyla showed off her swing dancing skills while the dance party raged on. It was a night to remember and so full of joy!

Congratulations, lovebirds!

True story — this was a WINTER wedding in DULUTH! No jackets, cotton candy skies and no snow in sight. Picture perfect, indeed.

Megan + Alec | Jewel-Tone Winter Wedding at Lumber Exchange - Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Megan and Alec tied the knot with a chic jewel-tone winter wedding at Lumber Exchange Event Center in Minneapolis. With a fabulous balance of tradition, unique style and non-traditional elements, their vision for their day was for their family and friends to have an incredible time celebrating with them (with a lot of epic dance moves and wine bottles involved). Mission accomplished!

Their love story began on Bumble and after their first date, they were inseparable. They began to celebrate relationship milestones with bottles of wine that they wanted to save for a future wine cellar. Alec even proposed to Megan on their 2nd dating anniversary with some wine bottles to add to that future cellar and together. When Megan questioned the collection of bottles, Alec replied … "It's Port. And it's a 2015 vintage, so it won't be ready to drink for at least 10 years. So we've got 10, 15, 20, 25..." and then he asked her to marry him!

Their engagement adventure was one of my all-time favorites, because it involved craft cocktails and beautiful golden sunset light in the North Loop of Minneapolis.

As they planned their wedding celebration, they wanted festive and fun and added personality to every element of their day. It started with setting the date for the 3rd anniversary of their first date: December 8. The bride opted for a gorgeous Hayley Paige gown that looked like Elsa (from Disney’s Frozen), according to the little ring bearer. The Lumber Exchange was their venue choice, with its newly renovated Dylan and Sawyer Rooms overlooking an epic mural of Minnesota native, Bob Dylan. With such beautiful features of the historic venue, they simply enhanced its beauty with some jewel-tone holiday decor, including some delicious Christmas cookies for dessert, baked by the bride’s talented aunt. The groom’s sister officiated the celebration and these two officially became husband + wife!

I’m definitely giving Megan and Alec the award for “best dip on the dance floor, ever”. Just look at those moves!! But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t tear up when Alec and his 93-year old grandmother took the dance floor. Epic dance parties of all forms are just THE BEST and when topped off with a sparkler exit? Pretty much the best day ever.

Congratulations, lovebirds!!
